Organizing Contacts with Tags

Last updated on April 2, 2026

Overview

Tags are short keyword labels you attach to contacts. They let you quickly filter your contact list and identify subsets of your audience — for example, “VIP”, “Lead”, or “Newsletter”.

Before you start

  • You need the view_tags permission to see the Tags section.
  • You need the manage_tags permission to create, edit, or delete tags.

How to view your tags

  1. Click Tags in the left sidebar.
  2. The page lists all tags in your workspace. Each tag shows:
    • The tag name
    • A color indicator
    • How many contacts currently have that tag
    • Edit and Delete actions

How to create a tag

  1. On the Tags page, click the Create tag button (or equivalent “+” button).
  2. Enter the tag name.
  3. Choose a color for the tag if the option is available.
  4. Save the tag.

The new tag will appear immediately in the list and will be available as a filter on the Contacts page.

How to edit a tag

  1. Find the tag in the list.
  2. Click the Edit action (pencil icon) on the tag’s row.
  3. Update the name or color as needed.
  4. Save your changes.

How to delete a tag

  1. Find the tag in the list.
  2. Click the Delete action on the tag’s row.
  3. Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

Note: Deleting a tag removes the label from all contacts it was attached to. The contacts themselves are not deleted.

Tips & things to know

  • Tags are workspace-wide. Any team member with the right permissions can see and use all tags.
  • A contact can have multiple tags at the same time.
  • Tags you create here immediately become available as filter options on the Contacts page.
  • Tags are also visible on individual contact records, making it easy to see at a glance what categories a contact belongs to.
  • Tags are labels only — they do not restrict who can send messages to a contact. To target a group of contacts in a campaign, use Lists instead.
