Connecting Your WhatsApp Number

Last updated on April 2, 2026

Overview

WhatsApp Numbers are the phone numbers your workspace uses to send and receive WhatsApp messages. At least one number must be connected and in a “Ready” state before you can send campaigns or use the Inbox.

Before you start

  • You need a WhatsApp Business account and a phone number registered with it.
  • You need the manage_numbers permission. If you cannot see the WhatsApp Numbers section in the sidebar, ask your workspace owner to grant you access.

How to view your connected numbers

  1. Click WhatsApp Numbers in the left sidebar.
  2. The page lists all numbers added to your workspace, with each number showing:
    • The phone number
    • Its current status (Connected, Disconnected, or Pending)
    • When it was added
    • Verification status

How to add a new WhatsApp number

  1. On the WhatsApp Numbers page, click the button to add a new number (typically labelled Add number or shown as a “+” button).
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your WhatsApp Business account.
  3. After the process completes, your number will appear in the list. Its status will update in real time — wait for it to reach Connected or Ready before using it.

Understanding number statuses

StatusMeaning
Ready / ConnectedThe number is active and can send and receive messages
PendingThe number has been added but is still being verified
DisconnectedThe connection to this number has been lost and needs to be restored

What to do if a number shows “Action required” or “Disconnected”

  1. Click the Connection Center button in the top header (wifi icon), or click the Open Connection Center button on the dashboard status card.
  2. The Connection Center will show what action is needed — this is usually re-scanning a QR code or re-authorizing your WhatsApp Business account.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps.
  4. Once complete, the status will update to Ready automatically.

Tips & things to know

  • Only “Ready” numbers appear in the campaign wizard and Inbox selector. Pending or disconnected numbers cannot be used to send messages.
  • Status updates happen in real time — you do not need to refresh the page.
  • A workspace can have multiple WhatsApp numbers. Each number has its own Inbox and can be assigned to a separate AI agent.
  • Disconnecting a number does not delete your message history or contacts — it only stops the number from sending or receiving until reconnected.
