Using WhatGenius
Authorizing API Access
Last updated on April 2, 2026
Overview
Some external applications request access to your WhatGenius workspace via an OAuth authorization flow. This screen lets you review exactly what permissions the app is asking for, then approve or deny access.
Before you start
- You arrive at this screen by clicking an authorization link from a third-party application — you do not navigate to it from within WhatGenius directly.
- You must be signed in to WhatGenius for the authorization to be linked to your account.
- If the link is expired or invalid, you will see an “Invalid Request” error screen instead of the authorization form.
How to authorize an application
- Click the authorization link provided by the third-party app. You are taken to the WhatGenius API authorization page.
- At the top of the page you will see:
- The WhatGenius logo and the requesting app’s logo connected by an arrow.
- The title “Authorize API Access”.
- A subtitle confirming which app is requesting access to your workspace.
- Review the API Permissions section. This shows a grid of permission scopes the app is requesting:
- Account Status & Activity — Lets the app check your workspace connection and activity.
- Send Messages — Lets the app send WhatsApp messages on your behalf.
- Manage Templates — Lets the app create and update message templates.
- Manage Phone Numbers — Lets the app view and configure your connected numbers.
- Access Contacts — Lets the app read and manage your contact database.
- Security & Compliance — Lets the app access security-related data.
- To see the full list if some are hidden, click the Show all permissions toggle.
- Read the Security Notice below the permissions grid. It explains the implications of granting access.
- Read the consent statement at the bottom. It includes links to the WhatGenius Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Tick the consent checkbox to confirm you have read and understood the access request.
- Click the Authorize Access button (only enabled after ticking the checkbox) to grant the app access to your workspace — or click Cancel if you do not want to proceed. The app will be notified that authorization was denied.
What happens after you authorize
The third-party application receives an access token that allows it to interact with your WhatGenius workspace according to the permissions you approved. You are typically redirected back to the third-party app automatically.
How to revoke access later
If you want to revoke an app’s access after authorizing it, go to Apps in the left sidebar and find the connected integration. Click Disconnect or Delete to remove its access.
Tips & things to know
- Never authorize an application you do not recognize or trust. Authorizing grants the app real access to send messages, manage contacts, and more on your behalf.
- Required scopes cannot be deselected. The app needs them to function. If you are uncomfortable with any required scope, cancel the authorization and contact the app’s support.
- The “Invalid Request” error means the authorization link has already been used, has expired, or was malformed. Contact the app that sent you the link to generate a new one.
- Authorization is per workspace. If you are a member of multiple workspaces, the authorization applies to the workspace you are currently signed in to.
