AI Agents

Overview

AI Agents are automated reply bots you can assign to a WhatsApp number. When an incoming message matches an agent’s trigger keywords, the agent sends an automatic reply using a template you configure — without any manual action needed from your team.

Before you start

  • You need the view_agents permission to see the AI Agents section.
  • You need the manage_agents permission to create, edit, or delete agents.
  • You should have at least one WhatsApp number in Ready status and at least one approved message template before creating an agent. See Connecting your WhatsApp number and Creating message templates.

How to view your agents

  1. Click AI Agents in the left sidebar.
  2. The page lists all agents in your workspace.
  3. Each agent shows:
    • The agent name
    • Whether it is Active or Inactive
    • The WhatsApp number it is assigned to
    • Edit, Delete, and Test actions

How to create an agent

  1. On the AI Agents page, click the Create agent button.
  2. An agent editor opens. Fill in the fields:
    • Agent name — An internal label to identify this agent.
    • Assigned WhatsApp number — Choose which of your Ready numbers this agent will monitor.
    • Response template — Select the approved template the agent will send when triggered.
    • Trigger keywords — Enter the words or phrases that will activate the agent. When an incoming message contains any of these words, the agent replies automatically.
    • Response delay — Optionally set a delay (in seconds) before the agent sends its reply, to make the interaction feel more natural.
  3. Click Save to create the agent.

The agent appears in the list with an Active status.

How to activate or deactivate an agent

  • An agent that is Active will respond to matching incoming messages automatically.
  • To pause an agent without deleting it, edit it and toggle its status to Inactive.
  • To re-enable it, edit it again and set the status back to Active.

How to edit an agent

  1. Find the agent in the list.
  2. Click the Edit action on its row.
  3. Update any of the agent’s settings.
  4. Click Save to apply the changes.

How to delete an agent

  1. Find the agent in the list.
  2. Click the Delete action on its row.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Deleting an agent stops all automated replies for that agent immediately.

Tips & things to know

  • Each WhatsApp number can have only one active agent at a time. If you create a second agent for the same number, check whether the first one conflicts.
  • Agents only reply to incoming messages. They do not initiate conversations — a contact must message you first.
  • Trigger keywords are case-insensitive. “Hello”, “hello”, and “HELLO” all match the same keyword.
  • Agents run 24/7 while Active. If you need to pause automated replies (for example, during a manual campaign follow-up), temporarily deactivate the agent.
  • The reply sent by an agent must be an approved template — free-form automated replies are not supported by WhatsApp’s API.
